Dear Parents,
Thank you for the great turn out today at the first PAP meeting! This is a new program for the school and we are excited for the enthusiasm of the parents to work together for the success of the students. Success is required at Lied and we will make sure all students are successful when we work together.
These were the minutes for our meeting on 8/26/2011
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. We elected officers for the 2011-2012 PAP school year today.
· Tricia Perna - President
· Sheri Dobbins - Vice President
· Jackie Emigh - Vice President
· Jennifer Ritz - Treasurer & School Liaison
· NEED - Secretary
· Jaime Garcia – Translator
Congratulations to the wonderful parents that were elected! As you may have noticed, we still need to elect a secretary. If anyone is interested, please contact Jennifer Ritz at JARitz@interact.ccsd.net.
2. As per the results of the survey, the primary contact methods that were preferred by parents were phone calls and emails. PAP controls this particular email list, however the phone is through parentlink and we are not in control of that. If you wish to be removed from the phone call list you should contact Wilma Horn at 799-4620 extension 4022 for further assistance. If you wish to be removed from this mailing list and just receive the phone calls, please reply to this message with “phone calls only” as the subject line. Be sure to enter your email address in the body of the reply to ensure your removal.
3. PAP meetings will be held on the 2nd Friday of every month at 9am in the Little Theatre on campus with the exception of November, which will be on the 1st Friday, due to school scheduling. These meetings will be used to plan the upcoming events and will last less than an hour. All parents are welcome! The meeting minutes will be emailed to the PAP email list, as well as, placed on the PAP blog at http://www.lied-pap.blogspot.com/.
4. Spanish speaking families will have access to our messages with the help of Jaime Garcia. Thank you Jaime! Parents that need translated versions of the emails, please reply to this message with “translation needed” in the subject line so that you can be added to the proper email group. Be sure to enter your email address in the body of the reply to ensure you are added. There is also a link on the blog to open a new browser window with a Spanish version.
5. There was discussion about a school marquee for event announcements to be placed outside the school. Further research and discussion is needed on this matter.

Therefore, we will be utilizing as many Fridays as possible for events, but there will be some on other days of the week as well.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
PAP is not only about fundraising; it’s about creating a support for the academic environment at Lied MS. We would like to grow our program into providing parent education and support as well.
· Parents are encouraged to come on campus to work with teachers and counselors and to help with events. The volunteer time you can donate for assistance is appreciated and welcomed! Please contact Jennifer Ritz at JARitz@interact.ccsd.net or the PAP president, Tricia Perna at tricia@triciaperna.com.
· If you would like to participate in your child’s personal classes for observation or student support, please give your child's teachers a 24 hour notice before coming to spend time in their classroom. They will appreciate it. Don’t forget, that each time you come on campus to visit or work with students and teachers, you must stop by the front office and pick up a visitor's badge.
· Lied has the Gator Gents program to help increase male involvement on campus. For more information, please contact Mr. Al Washington at 799-4620 for more details.
· Lied counselors are asking for volunteers to help conduct the monthly Student of the Month breakfasts and/or assistant with the quarterly Recognition for Report Cards. Please contact PAP or the Lied front office if you would like to help make these VERY worthwhile events even more successful!
· Donations are needed! We are looking for raffle gift basket prizes for Family Night in November, school supplies for students in need, and breakfast/lunch/treats for teacher faculty meetings and staff development days. If you are able to provide any of these items, please contact PAP!
Hope to see you all at the Open House! Here’s to a great and exciting year!
Tricia Perna
PAP President
